Stocking UP!

The polished floors of a giant warehouse in northeast Tulsa will begin to fill up next month with stacks of chocolate chip cookies, electrical controls, toilet paper and other goods.

The $11 million facility near U.S. 169 and Apache Street is designed to accommodate the flow of consumer products and raw manufactured materials around the Tulsa area and across the country, said an official with United Warehouse Co., the Wichita-based outfit behind the project. “This shows our confidence in the future of the local economy,” said Bob Kroblin, a company spokesman. “This facility will help entice business to the area.”

United Warehouse so far has contracts with about 14 companies – local, national and international – that will outsource their logistic needs to United Warehouse and use the 336,000 square-foot facility as a point along their distribution networks. When it opens in February, the 18-door center will be capable of handling 100 trucks a day as well as providing inventory management, packaging and food-grade space, said general manager Mark Vander Veen. The facility has a 12-acre footprint and sits on 53 acres on the southeast corner of Apache Street and Garnett road. Tulsa International Airport is a few miles to the west, the Tulsa Port of Catoosa is a few miles to the east, and U.S. 169 is adjacent.

The new facility will have 15 to 20 full time employees, officials said, and is capable of staffing up to 70 temporary workers as business dictates.
